Advisory work

I have extensive experience in competition policy and regulation, advising on mergers, competition investigations and regulatory proceedings since the mid-1990s. I mainly focus on the media and communications sectors, but have also worked in energy, petroleum, mining, banking and car distribution, among other sectors.

I am a senior consultant to the European Competition Practice of Charles River Associates in London. From 2001-03 I was Principal case handler at CRA's former incarnation, Lexecon Ltd. I was an adviser to Orange UK (prior to its merger with T-Mobile) and have acted as an expert witness for Irish telecoms operator eircom and Canadian cable company Cogeco Cable.

During 2003-04 I took leave from my academic post at Essex University to serve as Chief Economist at UK communications regulator Ofcom. Since 2004 I have advised competition authorities and sectoral regulators including the UK Competition Commission, Irish Competition Authority, Irish Commission for Communications Regulation (Comreg) and Thai communications regulator (NBTC). I have also provided training to regulators on aspects of broadcasting regulation and competition.
